The Gypsy King called out The Hurley Flyer for its ‘totally unacceptable behaviour’ on twitter
The Hurley Flyer was at the centre of Tyson Fury’s tweet after it refused to allow entry to two Traveller men
Tyson Fury has called out a ‘racist’ pub for banning Travellers from entering.
The boxing star shared recent footage from outside the Hurley Flyer pub in Morecambe in which a doorman refuses entry to two Traveller men.
One of the men, who is videoing the incident, can be heard asking why he and his father-in-law cannot come in for a drink at the Marston’s-owned pub.
The doorman in response says: “The brewery has been instructed by the local authority not to administer Travellers.”
When the man asks ‘have I been bad?” the doorman says: “I’ve never come across you myself.”
He goes onto explain that there was an ‘incident’ prior to this which has resulted in the decision to ban all Travellers.
Clearly upset, the man continues to probe why he and his 70-year-old father-in law cannot come in when they have never been involved in an incident in the pub.
The doorman adds: “I do appreciate what you’re saying. Like you say you can’t tarnish everyone with the same brush but unfortunately… they have gone through. I’m only acting on what I’ve been told.”
When asked if the doorman would ban a group of Asian men if any Asian people were involved in an incident, he said: “If it came from them mate, I would have to enforce it.”
Understandably, the footage caused an outcry on social media, with the Gypsy King saying: “Racism in Lancaster 2020. How is this even possible in today’s society? Totally unacceptable behaviour. Racism at work.”
Other people soon responded, calling for people to ‘boycott’ all Marston’s pubs.
Lancaster City Council has categorically denied asking the pub chain to ban all travellers and has since responded to LancsLive, saying: “This is categorically untrue. The city council has never, and would never, suggest to any premises they should adopt such a policy. We will contact the brewery concerned to explain that to have such a blanket policy would be unlawful and is clearly unacceptable.”
