When Rafael Nadal is healthy there are…’, says ATP ace

Wimbledon did not have a positive ending for
Rafael Nadal. With victories over Francisco
Cerundolo, Ricardas Berankis, Lorenzo Sonego,
Botic van de Zandschulp and Taylor Fritz, the
Spanish phenomenon has reached his eighth
semifinal at the Championships.
The former world number 1 had to retire on the
eve of the match against Nick Kyrgios, having
realized that he could not continue playing with
that abdominal pain. The 22-time Grand Slam
champion looked very sad at the press
conference, but he made the wisest decision to
avoid compromising the rest of the season.
2022 gave enormous satisfaction to the 36-year-
old from Manacor, capable of winning the
Australian Open and Roland Garros. The Iberian
veteran has thus stretched on his eternal rivals
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the all-
time ranking of the Majors.
Barring further unforeseen circumstances, Rafa
will rest for a week and then gradually return to training.

His goal is to be ready for Canada’s
Masters 1000. In a long interview with MARCA,
Feliciano Lopez admitted that he no longer has
words to describe Nadal’s greatness.
Lopez pays tribute to Rafa Nadal
“When Rafael Nadal is healthy there are very few
players who can beat him,” said Lopez. “We
have long run out of words to describe what
Rafa does. You have to enjoy it because at 36
years old that a player is able to win two Grand
Slams in the circumstances that he has, it is
very difficult to explain in words what he is
doing.”
The former World No. 12 added that he agrees
with Nadal’s decision to withdraw from
Wimbledon. “I think it’s the best decision he
could make because of the circumstances,”
Lopez acknowledged. “Rafa plays the Grand
Slams to win them and it doesn’t make sense
for him to jump on the court in those conditions.

and there is also the risk of hurting himself
more and endangering the rest of the season.”
Rafael Nadal was looking good to continue his
red-hot Grand Slam winning streak this year at
the Wimbledon Championships. However, an
untimely injury setback resulted in him
withdrawing from the tournament before his
semi-final match against Nick Kyrgios.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion has returned
to Barcelona to undergo treatment for his
abdominal injury. As he exited Wimbledon, he
thanked all the employees who worked hard to
ensure that he had a smooth time at the
tournament. Subsequently, he said, “Thank you
so much… Hope to see you next year, let’s
see”.
